At ICA’s warehouse in Sweden all waste is sorted and practically all waste is recycled. All sorted organic waste from the warehouse in Helsingborg is sent to a facility belonging to Nordvästra Skånes Renhållning AB (NSR), where it is used to produce biogas – an environmentally friendly recyclable fuel – and biofertiliser. Today, for example, the bulk of Helsingborg’s city buses and regional buses run on biogas obtained at the NRS biogas facility.
Rimi Baltic in Estonia recycles all the packaging materials from its stores and warehouses, including polystyrene. This makes Rimi the only grocery company in Estonia to recycle all packaging materials.
Rimi Baltic in Latvia has opened public sorting locations at five stores in Riga, enabling customers to easily sort glass and plastics for recycling.
